On Friday, November 28, 2025, the Institute of Water and Environment for Sustainability, Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), led by Dr. Chana Phume, Vice Chairman of FTI and President of the Institute of Water and Environment for Sustainability, held the closing ceremony of the “Water Leadership Program: Class 10” at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center to announce the successful development of new water leaders who are ready to drive the future of water management in Thailand through collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors.

Dr. Chana Phume, Vice Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and President of the Institute of Water and Environment for Sustainability, stated that the challenges regarding water in Thailand have become increasingly complex due to global warming, economic expansion, and the rising risks of severe floods and droughts, as evidenced by the current flooding situation in the southern region, which impacts communities as well as the industrial sector. It is imperative for the country to have “water leaders” who possess comprehensive knowledge, can think systematically, and can effectively collaborate with all sectors. The Institute is committed to promoting knowledge development for the industrial sector alongside fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors, to drive change both at the local and policy levels, leading to an elevation of the country’s water management capabilities towards true sustainable development goals.

The learning throughout the program emphasized three key pillars to elevate the nation’s water leaders, including:
1.  Knowledge of Meteorology, Water Situation Monitoring, and Risk Assessment
    •  Participants learned scientific data regarding rainfall, water flow, climate, and monitoring and forecasting tools to accurately plan and prepare for water situations in various areas.
2.  Water Law and the Roles of Related Agencies
    •  Participants learned about the Water Resources Act of 2018 and important regulations from water-related agencies such as the Office of National Water Resources, the Royal Irrigation Department, the Department of Water Resources, the Department of Groundwater Resources, the Meteorological Department, the Industrial Estate Authority, and other regulatory bodies, which helped participants gain a comprehensive understanding of the overall water management system of the country.
3.  Water Technologies, Wastewater, Recycling Water, and Related Innovations
    •  Participants learned about the application of technologies and innovations such as industrial water supply systems, wastewater treatment systems, water recycling technologies, wastewater reuse, and seawater desalination technologies, which are essential for enhancing water security for areas facing scarcity or drought.

In addition, participants developed guidelines for water management in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), addressing a significant national issue that reflects their ability to analyze spatially and apply knowledge in practical contexts.

Another achievement of WLP Class 10 is the establishment of the Water Leadership Network, which will serve as a vital mechanism for exchanging information, monitoring water situations, and fostering collaboration among various sectors to enhance the country's long-term water security.

FTI is confident that the leaders from WLP Class 10 will apply their knowledge and experiences to improve water systems within their organizations and communities, as well as collaboratively build a future for the Thai water system that is efficient, secure, and sustainable.

The Institute is preparing to accept applications for WLP Class 11 in 2026. Interested individuals can follow announcements and details through the communication channels of the Federation of Thai Industries and the Institute of Water to enhance capabilities and jointly drive sustainable water security in the country.
