FTI emphasizes 4 strategies to propel CAFTA 3.0, connecting Thai entrepreneurs, especially SMEs, into the China–ASEAN supply chain, while promoting cooperation in investment, technology, innovation, and workforce to enhance the competitiveness of Thai industries and leverage economic opportunities in the region.
Recently, on September 17, 2026, Mr. Weerachai Munsinthorn, Vice Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), President of the Thailand–China Economic and Investment Institute (TCEII), and Chairman of the Small and Medium Enterprises Institute in the Manufacturing Industry (SMI), attended the opening ceremony of the 23rd China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) under the theme “CAFTA 3.0 Opportunities, Better Life,” and also delivered a speech at the China-ASEAN Business Forum, Council and Joint Meetings of Leaders of China-ASEAN Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Nanning, People's Republic of China.
On this occasion, Mr. Weerachai presented insights from the industrial sector that CAFTA 3.0 should go beyond trade promotion by creating business opportunities and mutual growth between China and ASEAN through 4 key strategies as follows:
1. Strengthen China–ASEAN Supply Chain
Promote the use of Local Content, technology transfer, and provide opportunities for SMEs to participate in the supply chains of large companies to elevate the capabilities of entrepreneurs in the region.
2. Transform from “Trade Partners” to “Business Partners”
Enhance cooperation from mere goods trading to joint investment, research and development, co-creation of products and brands, as well as expanding markets together to create long-term economic value.
3. Enable SMEs to Truly Benefit from CAFTA 3.0
Support SMEs in accessing information, regulations, standards, funding sources, logistics systems, and business matching that could lead to actual orders, investments, and business collaborations.
4. Develop Workforce Skills for Future Industries
Accelerate upskilling and reskilling in digital, AI, automation, and clean energy, while promoting personnel exchange and knowledge sharing between China and ASEAN to prepare the workforce in line with industrial changes.
In conclusion, FTI and TCEII are ready to collaborate with various sectors of China and ASEAN to transform opportunities from CAFTA 3.0 into tangible results, aiming to transition from Supply Chain to Value Chain, from Trade to Joint Venture & Co-Creation, and from economic growth to improved quality of life for the populace.
