On March 10, 2026, the ASEAN and Logistics Division of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) organized a discussion seminar on the topic “Enhancing Strategies for Promoting the Thai Halal Industry to Enter the Global Market Sustainably.” Mr. Krit Uengwitoonstit, Chairman of the ASEAN Regional Business Promotion Committee, honored the occasion as the opening speaker, while Mr. Kritsada Prasertsukho, Chairman of the Southern ASEAN Business Promotion Task Force, discussed the objectives of the event at the PASSION room (802) on the 8th floor of FTI and via online platforms.

This event was a collaboration between the Southern ASEAN Business Promotion Task Force of the FTI's ASEAN and Logistics Division, the Halal Institute of Prince of Songkla University, and the Faculty of Management Science of Chandrakasem Rajabhat University, aimed at gathering opinions from all sectors to develop policy proposals under the project to study ways to promote and develop the Thai halal products and services industry for global competitiveness, which is currently underway.

The key activities of the event included

1. A special lecture by Mr. Apiyuk Amnuaykarnsin, Senior Policy and Planning Analyst at the Industrial Policy Branch 2 of the Office of Industrial Economics, regarding the trends of halal products in Thailand and ASEAN amidst the challenges that the private sector must rapidly adapt to.

2. A panel discussion on “Elevating Halal Standards and Global Marketing,” featuring esteemed experts including Mr. Pitakpipool Tiranthuk, Director of the Institute for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ISMED), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pakorn Priyakorn, Senior Advisor (Principal Advisor), Dr. Muhammad Amin Jehuno, Director of the Thailand Halal Standards Institute, Assoc. Prof. Paisarn Phromyong, Chairman of the Islamic Committee of Samut Prakan Province, and Mr. Mahachai Liratphong, Advisor to the FTI Food and Beverage Industry Group, who exchanged views on the mechanisms for establishing standards, enhancing the competitiveness of Thai SMEs, and the development of the halal industry from a private sector perspective. Mr. Worawit Nilwetch was the moderator of the session.

3. The presentation of a (draft) report on studying ways to promote and develop the Thai halal products and services industry by Dr. Naim Madsari from the Halal Institute of Prince of Songkla University and Mr. Natthapol Romalee, a halal academic from Krirk University. The preliminary study results comprise a policy framework of six pillars for driving and developing the Thai halal industry, which integrates cooperation between the government, religion, and the private sector, including:
- Elevating national halal standards and certification systems.
- Promoting the potential of SMEs comprehensively and encouraging the establishment of competitive halal clusters.
- Developing trade and export systems by utilizing international negotiation mechanisms to reduce trade barriers.
- Developing digital infrastructure, proposing the establishment of a Halal One Stop Service and a traceability system.
- Spatial opportunity distribution, promoting the establishment of Mobile Halal Units.
- Developing human resources and labor markets to create specialized halal professionals systematically.

This seminar represents a significant step in gathering opinions from all sectors towards clearly defining the strategies for Thai Halal and enhancing the competitiveness of the Thai halal industry in the future.
