วันที่ 16 กันยายน 2569 นางพิมพ์ใจ ลี้อิสสระนุกูล ประธานสภาอุตสาหกรรมแห่งประเทศไทย (ส.อ.ท.) พร้อมด้วยนายวิเชาวน์ รักพงษ์ไพโรจน์ รองประธานส.อ.ท. และคณะผู้บริหาร ร่วมให้การต้อนรับ H.E. Mrs. Lucy N. Kiruthu เอกอัครราชทูตเคนยาประจำประเทศไทย ในโอกาสเข้าพบเพื่อแสดงความยินดีเนื่องในโอกาสเข้ารับตำแหน่งประธาน ส.อ.ท. ณ ห้องมงคลสุธี ชั้น 8 ส.อ.ท.
ในการหารือ ทั้งสองฝ่ายได้แลกเปลี่ยนมุมมองเกี่ยวกับแนวทางการส่งเสริมความร่วมมือด้านเศรษฐกิจและการค้าระหว่างกัน โดยเคนยาเป็นหนึ่งในประเทศที่ไทยให้ความสำคัญในการขับเคลื่อนความสัมพันธ์กับภูมิภาคแอฟริกาภายใต้ Thailand–Africa Initiative (TAI) ซึ่งเป็นกรอบนโยบายสำคัญของกระทรวงการต่างประเทศในการส่งเสริมความร่วมมือกับประเทศในแอฟริกา
ปัจจุบันเคนยาส่งออกสินค้ามายังไทย อาทิ เคมีภัณฑ์ สินค้ากสิกรรม และอัญมณี ขณะที่สินค้าสำคัญของไทยที่ส่งออกไปยังเคนยา ได้แก่ ยานยนต์และชิ้นส่วน ข้าว และเครื่องจักรกลการเกษตร สะท้อนถึงโอกาสในการเชื่อมโยงจุดแข็งและห่วงโซ่อุปทานของทั้งสองประเทศ โดยเฉพาะการนำเทคโนโลยีและเครื่องจักรของไทยไปสนับสนุนภาคเกษตรกรรมของเคนยา และการพัฒนาการแปรรูปสินค้าเกษตรเพื่อเพิ่มมูลค่า
ขณะเดียวกัน อัญมณีและเครื่องประดับเป็นอีกสาขาที่มีศักยภาพในการต่อยอดความร่วมมือ เนื่องจากไทยมีความเชี่ยวชาญและเป็นศูนย์กลางสำคัญด้านการเจียระไน การผลิต และการส่งออกอัญมณีและเครื่องประดับ
ขณะที่เคนยามีศักยภาพด้านแหล่งวัตถุดิบอัญมณี จึงสามารถส่งเสริมให้เคนยาเป็นแหล่งวัตถุดิบทางเลือกสำหรับผู้ประกอบการไทย และร่วมกันพัฒนาผลิตภัณฑ์ในอนาคต
อย่างไรก็ดี ทั้งสองฝ่ายเห็นพ้องว่าหนึ่งในอุปสรรคทางการค้าการลงทุนของสองประเทศ คือ ข้อจำกัดด้านการชำระเงินและธุรกรรมทางการเงินระหว่างประเทศ ซึ่งมีระบบและแนวทางการดำเนินงานที่แตกต่างกัน อาจส่งผลต่อความสะดวกและต้นทุนในการทำธุรกิจของภาคเอกชน
นอกจากนี้ เอกอัครราชทูตฯ ได้ประชาสัมพันธ์การจัดงาน Kenya–Thailand Business Roundtable ซึ่งกำหนดจัดขึ้นในวันที่ 5-6 พฤศจิกายน 2569 ภายใต้ธีม “Unlocking the Indian Ocean Bridge: Kenya and Thailand for Inclusive Trade & Investment” เพื่อเปิดพื้นที่ให้ภาคเอกชนไทยและเคนยาเชื่อมโยงเครือข่าย แลกเปลี่ยนข้อมูลทางธุรกิจ และแสวงหาโอกาสทางการค้าและการลงทุนร่วมกัน โดยภายในงานจะมีกิจกรรมจับคู่ธุรกิจในสาขาที่มีศักยภาพร่วมกัน ได้แก่ เครื่องจักรกลการเกษตร อัญมณีและเครื่องประดับ เกษตรและอาหารแปรรูป ผลิตภัณฑ์ทางการแพทย์ พลังงานสะอาด และการท่องเที่ยวเชิงสุขภาพ ซึ่งสามารถต่อยอดจากการพบปะทางธุรกิจไปสู่การสร้างเครือข่าย การร่วมลงทุน และความร่วมมือด้านห่วงโซ่อุปทานระหว่างผู้ประกอบการไทยและเคนยาต่อไป
On September 16, 2026, Mrs. Pimjai Leeissaranukul, Chairperson of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), along with Mr. Vichewan Ruckphongphairoj, Vice Chairperson of FTI, and executives welcomed H.E. Mrs. Lucy N. Kiruthu, Ambassador of Kenya to Thailand, on the occasion of her introductory meeting following her appointment as Chairperson of FTI at Mongkolsuthee Room, 8th Floor, FTI.
In the discussions, both parties exchanged views on ways to promote economic and trading cooperation between the two countries. Kenya is one of the countries that Thailand prioritizes for strengthening relations with the African region under the Thailand–Africa Initiative (TAI), which is an important policy framework of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in promoting cooperation with countries in Africa.
Currently, Kenya exports products to Thailand, such as chemicals, agricultural goods, and gems, while significant Thai exports to Kenya include vehicles and parts, rice, and agricultural machinery. This reflects the opportunities to connect the strengths and supply chains of both countries, particularly the introduction of Thai technology and machinery to support Kenya's agricultural sector and the development of processed agricultural products to enhance value.
At the same time, gems and jewelry are another area with potential for cooperation, as Thailand has expertise and is a significant hub for gemstone and jewelry cutting, manufacturing, and exports.
With Kenya having potential sources of gemstone raw materials, it could promote Kenya as an alternative raw material supply source for Thai entrepreneurs and collectively develop products in the future.
However, both parties agreed that one of the trade and investment barriers between the two countries is the limitations regarding payment systems and international financial transactions, which have different systems and operational guidelines that may affect the convenience and costs of doing business in the private sector.
In addition, the Ambassador promoted the upcoming Kenya–Thailand Business Roundtable scheduled to be held from November 5-6, 2026, under the theme “Unlocking the Indian Ocean Bridge: Kenya and Thailand for Inclusive Trade & Investment.” This event aims to provide a platform for Thai and Kenyan private sectors to connect networks, exchange business information, and seek collaborative trade and investment opportunities. Activities during the event will include business matching in mutually beneficial areas such as agricultural machinery, gems and jewelry, processed food, medical products, clean energy, and health tourism, which can advance from business meetings to networking, joint investment, and supply chain cooperation between Thai and Kenyan entrepreneurs.
