The total production of motorcycles from January to June 2026 was 1,261,349 units, down 0.68 percent from 2025, categorized as complete motorcycles (CBU) at 1,020,194 units, down 2.09 percent from 2025, and motorcycle parts (CKD) at 241,155 units, up 5.79 percent from 2025.

Sales

The total domestic sales of automobiles in June 2026 were 58,724 units, an increase of 19.36 percent from May 2026, and an increase of 17.26 percent from June 2025. The sales increase was attributed to the growing popularity of electric vehicles driven by rising fuel prices due to the Middle Eastern conflict, alongside government promotion of solar panel installations. Many electric vehicle models have become more affordable; however, most sales come from imports rather than domestically produced vehicles. Consequently, over the past six months, the production of internal combustion engine passenger cars declined by 34,679 units, marking a decrease of 29.21 percent from the same six-month period last year.

1-ton pickups, which utilize over 90 percent local parts, only achieved 10,805 units in sales, down 3.17 percent from June last year. Previously, the monthly sales of pickups reached 30,000 units before the COVID-19 pandemic, but currently, they have dropped to 10,000 units per month, continuing to decline month after month for three years due to strict lending practices from financial institutions, resulting in a decrease in production for parts suppliers and the supply chain. As the companies' revenue and profits diminish, government tax collection from excise and corporate income tax has also decreased, leading to reduced income for workers in the parts and supply chain manufacturing sectors. This has resulted in a cautious approach to spending, negatively impacting investment and employment, and consequently slowing down domestic economic growth. The government is urged to stimulate the economy.

This would foster large-scale investments and extensive job creation to enhance purchasing power, enabling better debt repayment and genuinely reducing household debt. Additionally, increased tax revenues would allow the government to reinvest and generate more income for Thai people, contributing to an eventual economic rebound.

Passenger cars and patrol vehicles accounted for 42,420 units, which is 72.24 percent of total sales, an increase of 31.53 percent from the corresponding month last year.

Adjustment of Automobile Production Forecast for 2026
Upon closely monitoring the automotive industry situation and the global economic atmosphere, the Automotive Industry Group, FTI, has reduced Thailand's automobile production forecast for 2026 from 1,500,000 units to 1,450,000 units, representing a decline of 3.33 percent.

This adjustment includes a downward revision of the export production forecast from 950,000 to 900,000 units, a decrease of 5.26 percent, while maintaining the domestic sales forecast at 550,000 units as previously set.
Key factors influencing the adjustment include:

1. Ongoing uncertainties and prolonged conflicts in the Middle East led to a 38.35 percent decline in car exports to the region in the first half of 2026 compared to last year, exacerbated by the continuous closure of maritime routes across the Strait of Hormuz.
2. Persisting trade barriers and tariffs on imports imposed by the United States continue to impede the stability of the global economic environment.
3. The influx of electric vehicles from China into the market is intensifying competition with Thai cars in exports to regions including ASEAN, Australia, Oceania, and beyond.
4. The stringent criteria for vehicle emissions compliance from trading partners are becoming stricter.

Adjustment of Motorcycle Production Forecast for 2026
Based on continual assessments of domestic economic circumstances and market demand for motorcycles, the Automotive Industry Group, FTI, has increased the motorcycle production forecast for Thailand in 2026 from 2,000,000 to 2,050,000 units, representing a 2.50 percent uptick.

The export production target remains steady at 400,000 units while the production for domestic sales has been revised upward from 1,600,000 to 1,650,000 units, marking a 3.13 percent increase.
This increase in motorcycle production forecasts is supported by several factors:
1. The export target for production remains unchanged at 400,000 units, as Thailand exports to multiple regions around the globe and is not significantly affected by the ongoing conflicts; orders are still progressing as planned.
2. Domestic sales production has been revised upward from 1.6 million to 1.65 million, with total domestic market sales projected at 1.75 million units, underpinned by the government stimulus initiative “Thailand Helps Thailand Plus,” which encourages the circulation of economic funds. Rising fuel prices have prompted consumers to opt for motorcycles, while new Microfinance initiatives make access to loans easier for consumers.
