(Bangkok Midtown Hotel)
FTI is advancing the promotion of the network of Thai-South African women entrepreneurs while linking the private sectors of both countries to open opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, and market expansion. It views the relationship between business sectors and the exchange of networks as a key mechanism for enhancing economic opportunities between Thailand and South Africa.
On August 27, 2026, Ms. Ketsamani Lertkijja, Vice President of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), attended a luncheon to commemorate the 70th anniversary of National Women’s Day of the Republic of South Africa, aimed at promoting networking collaboration among Thai and South African women entrepreneurs, as well as encouraging cooperation between the business sectors of both countries. H.E. Mr. Darkey Ephraim Africa, the South African Ambassador to Thailand, presided over the opening ceremony at the Bangkok Midtown Hotel.
This participation underscores the importance of “networking” in driving economic cooperation, particularly in connecting women entrepreneurs who are increasingly playing a role in building businesses, expanding markets, and developing international cooperation. At the same time, it is an opportunity to foster understanding between the Thai and South African business sectors leading to tangible collaboration in the future.
During the event, the history of National Women’s Day was presented, originating from a march by over 20,000 South African women on August 9, 1956, to protest against laws requiring black citizens to carry “passbooks”. This incident became a significant symbol of the struggle for rights and equality, and subsequently, the South African government designated August 9th each year as National Women’s Day to honor women's roles in national development.
On this occasion, Ms. Ketsamani exchanged views and highlighted the role of FTI as a central linkage for the Thai industrial sector. Currently, FTI has a network of 48 industrial groups covering 76 provinces nationwide, which can serve as a crucial mechanism in connecting Thai entrepreneurs with business partners overseas.
Additionally, they exchanged information about the potential of the Thai private sector and the opportunities for promoting trade and investment with South Africa. It is believed that building relationships at the business level and developing networks continuously will help open avenues for entrepreneurs from both countries to become more acquainted, leading to business matchmaking, investment, and cooperation in promising fields.
