On Monday, November 25, 2024, Mr. Supharat Sirisuwannakul, Honorary Chairman of the Automotive Industry Group of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), and Mr. Surapong Paisithapattanapong, Advisor to the Chairman of the Automotive Industry Group and Spokesperson of the Automotive Industry Group of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), jointly disclosed the production numbers, domestic sales, and exports of automobiles and motorcycles in October 2024 as follows:

*Production*
The total number of vehicles produced in October 2024 was 118,842 units, a decrease of 25.13% from October 2023 and a decrease of 2.81% from September 2024, due to a 7.00% reduction in production for export and a 51.70% reduction in production for domestic sales.

The total number of vehicles produced from January to October 2024 was 1,246,868 units, a decrease of 19.28% from January to October 2023.
In October 2024, passenger cars produced were 47,481 units, down 17.07% from October 2023, categorized as follows:
•   Passenger cars with Internal Combustion Engines were 32,607 units, down 22.49% from October 2023.
•   Battery Electric Vehicles produced were 688 units, an increase of 34,300% from October 2023.
•   Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles produced were 500 units, down 8.76% from October 2023.
•   Hybrid Electric Vehicles produced were 13,686 units, down 6.48% from October 2023.

Passenger cars produced from January to October 2024 totaled 474,200 units, accounting for 38.03% of total production, a decrease of 11.91% from January to October 2023, categorized as follows:
•   Passenger cars with Internal Combustion Engines totaled 301,931 units, down 27.41% from January to October 2023.
•   Battery Electric Vehicles produced were 8,026 units, an increase of 5,215.23% from January to October 2023.
•   Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles produced were 5,067 units, down 36.85% from January to October 2023.
•   Hybrid Electric Vehicles produced were 159,176 units, an increase of 39.38% from January to October 2023.

For buses under 10 tons and over 10 tons, no production was recorded in October 2024. From January to October 2024, production was 10 units, a decrease of 90.74% from last year.

In October 2024, a total of 71,361 trucks were produced, a decrease of 29.67% from October 2023, and from January to October 2024, 772,658 trucks were produced, a decrease of 23.22% from January to October 2023.

In October 2024, a total of 70,514 one-ton pickups were produced, a decrease of 27.83% from October 2023, and from January to October 2024, 757,709 pickups were produced, accounting for 60.77% of total production, down 22.33% from January to October 2023, categorized as follows:

•   Pickup trucks produced were 120,468 units, down 30.03% from January to October 2023.
•   Double Cab pickups produced were 500,462 units, down 21.84% from January to October 2023.
•   PPV produced was 136,779 units, down 16.11% from January to October 2023.

Trucks under 5 tons and over 10 tons produced in October 2024 totaled 847 units, a decrease of 77.52% from October 2023. From January to October 2024, 14,949 trucks were produced, down 51.38% from January to October 2023.

*Production for Export*
In October 2024, 87,741 units were produced for export, accounting for 73.83% of total production, a decrease of 7.00% from October 2023. From January to October 2024, 861,916 vehicles were produced for export, accounting for 69.13% of total production, a decrease of 4.69% compared to the same period in 2023.

Passenger cars produced for export in October 2024 totaled 27,187 units, down 4.99% from October 2023, and from January to October 2024, the total number of passenger cars produced for export was 256,817 units, accounting for 54.16% of total passenger car production, an increase of 3.72% from January to October 2023.

One-ton pickups produced for export in October 2024 totaled 60,554 units, down 7.87% from October 2023, and from January to October 2024, 605,099 units were produced for export, accounting for 79.86% of total pickup production, a decrease of 7.86% from January to October 2023, categorized as follows:

•   Pickup trucks produced for export totaled 51,244 units, down 22.67% from January to October 2023.
•   Double Cab pickups produced for export totaled 443,787 units, down 10.88% from January to October 2023.
•   PPV produced for export was 110,068 units, an increase of 19% from January to October 2023.

*Production for Domestic Sale*
In October 2024, 31,101 units were produced for domestic sale, accounting for 26.17% of total production, a decrease of 51.70% from October 2023, and from January to October 2024, 384,952 units were produced, accounting for 30.87% of total production, down 39.89% from January to October 2023.

Passenger cars produced for domestic sale in October 2024 totaled 20,294 units, down 29.14% from October 2023, but from January to October 2023, 217,383 units were produced for domestic sale, accounting for 45.84% of total passenger car production, reflecting a decrease of 25.22% from January to October 2023.

One-ton pickups produced for domestic sale in October 2024 totaled 9,960 units, down 68.85% from October 2023, and from January to October 2024, the total produced was 152,610 units, accounting for 20.14% of total pickup production, a decrease of 52.14% from January to October 2023, categorized as follows:

•   Pickup trucks produced for domestic sale totaled 69,224 units, down 34.64% from January to October 2023.
•   Double Cab pickups produced for domestic sale totaled 56,675 units, down 60.20% from January to October 2023.
•   PPV produced for domestic sale totaled 26,711 units, down 62.13% from January to October 2023.

            For buses under 10 tons and over 10 tons, no production was recorded in October 2024. From January to October 2024, 10 units were produced, down 90.74% from last year.

            A total of 847 trucks were produced in October 2024, down 77.52% from October 2023, and from January to October 2024, a total of 14,949 trucks were produced, down 51.83% from January to October 2023.

*Motorcycles*
In October 2024, a total of 294,395 motorcycles were produced, an increase of 70.52% from October 2023, including 149,010 complete motorcycles (CBU), up 6.35% from 2023, and 145,385 motorcycle parts (CKD), which increased by 346.93% from 2023.

The total motorcycle production from January to October 2024 was 2,030,213 units, a decrease of 1.49% from 2023, categorized as follows: complete motorcycles (CBU) totaled 1,585,364 units, down 10.84% from 2023, while motorcycle parts (CKD) totaled 444,849 units, an increase of 57.34% from 2023.

*Sales*
The domestic sales of vehicles in October 2024 totaled 37,691 units, a decrease of 36.08% from September 2024, representing the lowest figure in 54 months since the lifting of lockdown measures from the COVID-19 pandemic in May 2020. The stringent measures by financial institutions regarding auto loans are the main reason, resulting in the total number of auto loan accounts in the third quarter being 6,365,571, a decrease of 75,377 accounts or 1.2% from the second quarter, and a decrease of 199,655 accounts or 3.0% from the third quarter of 2023. The total vehicle debt in the third quarter amounted to 2,465,204 million baht, down 2.8% from the second quarter and down 5.8% from the third quarter of 2023, with truck sales declining due to the weak economy growing at a low rate and continued high household debt. The industrial sector index expanded at a low rate of 0.1% in the third quarter.

The number of passenger cars and patrol vehicles was 21,814, accounting for 57.67% of total sales, down 33.21% from the same month last year:
•   Passenger cars and patrol cars with Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) totaled 11,562 units, accounting for 30.68% of total sales, down from 27.80% compared to the same month last year.
•   Passenger cars and patrol cars with Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) totaled 3,717 units, accounting for 9.86% of total sales, down from 49.73% of the previous year.
•   Passenger cars and patrol cars with Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) totaled 227 units, accounting for 0.60% of total sales, an increase of 187.34% from the same month last year.
•   Passenger cars and patrol vehicles with Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) totaled 6,308 units, accounting for 16.74% of total sales, down 31.23% from the same month last year.

Pickup trucks sold totaled 10,896 units, down 41.65% from the same month last year. PPVs totaled 2,451 units, down 43.33% from the same month last year. Trucks between 5 – 10 tons totaled 1,270 units, down 33.02% from the same month last year, and other vehicle types totaled 1,260 units, down 10.57% compared to the same month last year.

In the motorcycle segment, the sales reached 140,113 units, an increase of 18.86% from September 2024 and an increase of 3.80% from October 2023.

From January to October 2024, the total vehicle sales were 476,350 units, a decrease of 26.24% from the same period in 2023, categorized as follows:
Passenger cars and patrol cars totaled 284,304 units, accounting for 59.84% of total sales, a decrease of 12.22% from the same month last year:
•   Passenger cars and patrol cars with ICE totaled 129,440 units, accounting for 27.17% of total sales, down from 36.65% compared to the same month last year.
•   Passenger cars and patrol cars with BEV totaled 55,936 units, accounting for 11.74% of total sales, down from 0.33% compared to the same month last year.
•   Passenger cars and patrol cars with PHEV totaled 1,880 units, accounting for 0.39% of total sales, a decrease of 8.17% compared to the same month last year.
•   Passenger cars and patrol cars with HEV totaled 97,048 units, accounting for 20.37% of passenger cars and patrol vehicles, an increase of 39.56% compared to the same month last year.

Pickup trucks totaled 137,456 units, down 39.54% from the same month last year. PPVs totaled 29,395 units, down 42.98% from the same month last year. Trucks between 5 – 10 tons totaled 13,582 units, down 38.83% from the same month last year, and other vehicle types totaled 11,613 units, down 10.87% compared to the same month last year.

In the motorcycle segment, total sales were 1,421,824 units, a decrease of 10.09% from January to October 2023, categorized as follows: ICE motorcycles totaled 1,421,624 units, down from the same period last year by 10.04%, while BEV motorcycles totaled 200 units, down by 9.09% from the same period last year.

*Exports*
*Complete Automobiles*
In October 2024, a total of 84,334 units were exported, an increase of 5.08% from the previous month, but a decrease of 20.23% from October 2023. The decline in exports was attributed to the high baseline in the same month last year when 105,726 units were exported, leading to a decrease in exports to all markets. The Australian, Middle Eastern, and European markets—especially affected by the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas—are likely to see reduced exports. Another global economic concern is the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which may extend to other countries affecting exports of automobiles and other goods, categorized as follows:
•   Pickup trucks totaled 45,922 units, representing 54.45% of total exports, a decrease of 26.67% from 2023.
•   Passenger cars with ICE totaled 21,831 units, representing 25.89% of total exports, a decrease of 23.17% from 2023.
•   Passenger cars with HEV totaled 3,806 units, representing 4.51% of total exports, an increase of 80.21% from 2023.
•   PPVs totaled 12,775 units, representing 15.15% of total exports, an increase of 1.61% from 2023.

The export value of vehicles reached 55,728.19 million baht, down 23.11% from October 2023:
•   Engines recorded an export value of 3,336.39 million baht, down 10.17% from October 2023.
•   Other automotive parts recorded an export value of 15,715.26 million baht, down 11.96% from October 2023.
•   Automotive spare parts recorded an export value of 2,495.02 million baht, an increase of 9.04% from October 2023.

The total export value of vehicles in October 2024, including engines, other automotive parts, and spare parts, was 77,274.86 million baht, a decrease of 19.78% from October 2023.

From January to October 2024, a total of 853,221 complete vehicles were exported, a decrease of 8.02% from the same period last year, categorized as follows:
•   Pickup trucks with ICE totaled 486,584 units, accounting for 57.03% of total exports, a decrease of 11.76% from 2023.
•   Passenger cars with ICE totaled 210,945 units, accounting for 24.72% of total exports, a decrease of 20.35% from 2023.
•   Passenger cars with HEV totaled 41,336 units, accounting for 4.84% of total exports, an increase of 336.59% from 2023.
•   PPVs totaled 114,356 units, accounting for 13.40% of total exports, an increase of 12.23% from 2023.

The export value of vehicles from January to October totaled 588,790.48 million baht, a decrease of 0.53% compared to the same period in 2023, with details as follows:
•   Engines had an export value of 29,588.95 million baht, down by 8.03% from the same period in 2023.
•   Other automotive parts had an export value of 161,691.33 million baht, an increase of 4.42% from the same period in 2023.
•   Automotive spare parts had an export value of 22,150.02 million baht, an increase of 9.52% from the same period in 2023.

The total export value from January to October 2024, including complete vehicles, engines, automotive parts, and spare parts, was 802,220.78 million baht, an increase of 0.38% from the same period in 2023.

*Motorcycles*
In October 2024, a total of 175,066 motorcycles were exported (including CBU + CKD), an increase of 150.98% from September 2024 and an increase of 156.94% from October 2023. The export value was 6,562.90 million baht, an increase of 16.62% from October 2023:
•   Motorcycle parts had an export value of 268.04 million baht, an increase of 16.24% from October 2023.
•   Automotive spare parts had an export value of 232.86 million baht, an increase of 62.24% from October 2023.

The total export value of motorcycles in October 2024, including parts and spare parts, was 7,063.80 million baht, an increase of 17.69% from October 2023.

From January to October 2024, a total of 776,362 motorcycles were exported (including CBU + CKD), an increase of 15.89% from 2023, with an export value of 52,751.56 million baht, down 5.76% from 2023:
•   Motorcycle parts had an export value of 2,183 million baht, down from 2023 by 13.48%.
•   Automotive spare parts had an export value of 1,704.83 million baht, down from 2023 by 1.10%.

The total export value of motorcycles and their parts and spare parts in October 2024 was 79,338.66 million baht, a decrease of 17.59% from 2023, while from January to October 2024, it totaled 858,860.17 million baht, a decrease of 0.06% from 2023.

Mr. Surapong Paisithapattanapong, Advisor to the Chairman of the Automotive Industry Group and Spokesperson of the Automotive Industry Group of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), announced the projected production figures of member companies of the group for 2024 (new), adjusting the vehicle production target for 2024 from 1,700,000 units to 1,500,000 units, representing a decrease of 200,000 units. Domestic production was revised down from 550,000 units to 450,000 units, and production for export revised down from 1,150,000 units to 1,050,000 units.

*New BEV Registrations for October 2024*
In October 2024, a total of 6,651 new BEVs were registered, down 32.19% from the same month last year, categorized as follows:
•   Passenger vehicles and various types totaled 4,890 units, down from October 2023 by 36.62:
   o   Passenger cars totaled 4,782 units.
   o   Cars for up to 7 persons totaled 101 units.
   o   Business service vehicles totaled 1 unit.
   o   Sightseeing service vehicles totaled 6 units.
•   Pickups and vans totaled 40 units, down from October 2023 by 110.53%
•   Three-wheeled taxis totaled 3 units, down from October 2023 by 90.32%.

   o   Cars for up to 7 persons totaled 1,634 units.
