(Mergers and Acquisitions: M&A)
On January 8, 2026, Mr. Nawa Janthanasurokarn, Vice Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), participated in a press conference for the Future Trends Ahead 2026 event to convey concepts related to contributing to the writing of the book 'Future Trends Ahead 2026'. This book discusses the direction of Thailand during a transitional era, featuring in-depth perspectives from leaders in the industrial sector, under the role of the Federation of Thai Industries in driving the Thai economy toward the future at SCBX Next Tech, Siam Paragon, 4th Floor, Bangkok.
Mr. Nawa stated that this book arose from experiences of working closely with both private sector entrepreneurs and collaboration with the government through the role of the Federation of Thai Industries.
Over the past period, we have observed both 'signals of change' and 'new directions' in the Thai industrial sector clearly, especially when looking forward to 2026, which involves various factors such as the economy, technology, and geopolitics.
All data and perspectives have been woven together to be presented in this book, intending for it to serve not merely as a forecast but as a 'compass' helping readers—whether existing entrepreneurs or young individuals beginning their businesses—to leverage, adjust strategies, and prepare to concretely cope with changes.
When considering the industry trends for 2026 from the perspective of the Federation of Thai Industries, it is evident that the industries experiencing growth and those that are 'rapidly adapting' will cluster around digital, electronics, modern medical instruments, and electric vehicles (EV), which are growing under the impetus of demand, capital, and supportive policies from various countries.
At the same time, traditional industries that primarily compete on price will face pressure from all sides, such as rising costs, trade policies, and competition from foreign players, resulting in some needing to reduce production capacity and seriously reassess their business models.
From this context, 'new opportunities' arise in three main groups, namely:
• The introduction of automation systems (Automation) and the efficient use of energy (Energy Efficiency) to enhance capabilities.
• Opportunities from mergers and acquisitions (Mergers and Acquisitions: M&A) to foster growth, expand businesses, and enhance competitiveness.
• And the creation of collaboration between domestic and foreign capital to elevate the supply chain and enhance the competitiveness of Thai industries at the regional level.
Moreover, we also see the evolution of AI moving from Generative AI to Agentic AI and Physical AI, which will increasingly play a role in the manufacturing sector.
Thus, the FTI is driving the ONE FTI policy – One Vision, One Team, One Goal - to push the industrial sector, which is a key economic mechanism of the country, to transition from traditional industries or First Industries to new-era industries or Next-Gen Industries that meet the demands of the current world.
Strategically, the FTI has established the 4GO framework to elevate SMEs, consisting of:
• GO Digital & AI to enhance capabilities with digital and AI.
• GO Innovation to propel 'small but mighty' entrepreneurs through innovation.
• GO Global to expand opportunities for Thai products and services to the global market.
• And GO Green towards sustainable development, aiming for a Net Zero target by 2050.
All of this has a significant goal: to elevate Thai SMEs to genuinely compete on the global stage and grow alongside the changing industrial economy of the future.
