(Pay by skills)
On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, Mr. Kriangkrai Theeranukul, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), was honored to be invited by Kasikornbank to speak at The Sierra Business Forum on the turning point for Thai business amidst global economic fluctuations, held at the Siam Kempinski Hotel in Bangkok.
During the discussion, Mr. Kriangkrai addressed the challenges of the global economy facing the industrial sector today, including technology disruption, geopolitical issues leading to trade wars and technology wars, alongside climate change. These factors necessitate the industrial sector to adapt to the changing global trends. Simultaneously, domestic factors indicate that Thailand remains trapped in the middle-income trap, reflected by the country's GDP growth of below 3%. Therefore, industrial restructuring is crucial for addressing these issues, alongside enhancing workforce skills and implementing a pay-by-skills wage mechanism.
As for the adaptation strategies for the survival of the Thai industrial sector, it must aim towards the development of next-generation industries, consisting of 12 target industries (S-Curves), driving the industry with the BCG Model (Bio-Circular-Green Economy), enhancing the agricultural sector while improving environmental management, and ultimately adapting to achieve net zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2065, which will support sustainable industrial development moving forward.
