“สสว. เคียงข้าง SME คู่คิดที่ดีผู้ประกอบการไทย”
On Monday, September 23, 2024, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) in collaboration with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Office (SME Development Office) launched the SME SOFT POWER initiative: creatively enhancing the charm of SMEs through Thai products, under the promotion and development of starting SME entrepreneurs with Soft Power nationwide, more than 740 businesses were targeted to enable them to operate and survive at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. This event is expected to generate over 180 million Baht in revenue.
Mr. Prasert Chantharawongthong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Chairman of the Committee for the Promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises at the SME Development Office, revealed that the government has a policy to support the country's Soft Power to enhance and develop the knowledge, capabilities, and creativity of Thai people to create value and generate income. Additionally, it aims to preserve, restore, and further develop arts, culture, and promote local wisdom to create added value. The Prime Minister (Ms. Phaethongthan Chinnawat) and the government recognize the importance of promoting Soft Power and Thailand's Creative Economy as a key driving force for economic advancement and expanding export potential on a global scale. Regarding the four targeted industries that the SME Development Office aims to promote, namely Food, Fashion Design, Tourism, and Film, the government has policies to support them in various dimensions, such as accelerating high-potential tourism, promoting health tourism, water tourism, and the MICE industry to attract high-income tourists to Thailand. Furthermore, it is striving to elevate Thai festivals to a global level, cultivating a new generation to develop designs and nurture new designers, expanding the Thai film market, and promoting the growth of Thai restaurants and networks abroad to accelerate exports and the sourcing of raw materials from Thailand.
The project to promote and develop SME entrepreneurship through Soft Power by the SME Development Office today represents another initiative by the government aimed at supporting new entrepreneurs in the Soft Power industry to grow and strengthen in the future, which will eventually become an important driving force for Thailand's economy.
Mr. Wachira Kaewkor, Deputy Director of the SME Development Office, stated that the early stages of business operation, particularly the first three years, are critical times when SMEs need assistance from the government to sustain their businesses. Therefore, creating mechanisms for business scaling, finding market channels, and accessing funding sources are all vital for new entrepreneurs and must be prioritized to ensure sustainable business growth.
The Deputy Director of the SME Development Office further emphasized that due to these factors, the office has implemented the initiative to promote and develop starting SMEs with Soft Power, aligning with the government's policies aimed at promoting Thai Soft Power globally. This initiative aims to develop mechanisms to assist start-up entrepreneurs in target industries such as Food, Tourism, Fashion Design, and Film, enabling them to generate income, reduce costs, and improve quality of life, thereby strengthening entrepreneurs for effective growth and readiness to enter the system. This initiative is already underway, and it is expected that the event will generate over 180 million Baht in revenue.
“The aim of the SME SOFT POWER activities is to elevate new entrepreneurs by integrating talented individuals into the four targeted industry groups, while also promoting sustainable business practices and linking funding sources to drive Thailand's economy in the future,”
In this operation, the SME Development Office collaborated with the Federation of Thai Industries to extend their outreach across 18 provincial clusters throughout the country to maximize access to entrepreneurs. The office recognizes the potential and strengths of the FTI, which has a network of provincial industrial councils in all 76 provinces, enabling access to new entrepreneurs within those areas and identifying Soft Power products that reflect the unique characteristics of each province while leveraging the knowledge of experts and businesses in those regions to enhance the entrepreneurs' business perspectives.
Interested entrepreneurs can apply for the project at bit.ly/smeSP or inquire with the provincial industrial council of their respective regions where they operate.
“The SME Development Office stands alongside SMEs as a supportive partner for Thai entrepreneurs.”
