What is the Creative Economy? The Creative Economy Promotion Office (Public Organization) defines "Creative Economy" as per the Royal Decree establishing the Creative Economy Promotion Office (Public Organization) in 2018, which refers to the development of an economic system utilizing creativity based on knowledge, intellectual property, and research, which is linked with culture, the historical foundation of knowledge accumulation in society, technology, and innovation, to be used in business development, producing new goods and services that create added economic value or social value. Thailand's creative industries consist of 15 sectors, classified as follows: – Creative Originals, which include 1) crafts and handicrafts 2) music 3) performing arts 4) visual arts – Creative Content/Media, which include 5) film 6) broadcasting 7) printing 8) software – Creative Services, which include 9) advertising 10) design 11) architectural services – Creative Goods/Products, which include 12) fashion – Related Industries, which include 13) Thai food 14) traditional medicine 15) cultural tourism: Highlighting 3 trends supporting the creative economy, it is undeniable that industrial businesses play an important role in the development of the economy, society, and environment. This era is characterized by infusing creativity to create differentiation, diversity, excellence, and modernity beyond competitors, which can meet the needs of consumers and the creative economy, as well as the growth of creative labor that must evolve together. Therefore, if industrial businesses can connect with creativity, it will further drive the mechanisms of the creative economy to develop and become sustainable. In this article, we present 3 key issues anticipated to be trends worth watching in the near future that support the creative economy, including digital technology, low carbon society, and aging society. Digital Technology: In an era where digital technology advances and develops faster than expected, permeating every industrial business and experiencing high demand in the labor market, it is essential for professionals in the field to avoid job loss, as this is a specialized area. However, digital technology will be a crucial turning point for the development of processes and products, such as online marketing, restaurant management, blockchain technology, and developing applications utilizing AI, among others. Currently, there are numerous industrial businesses that are prioritizing and recognizing the opportunities in using digital technology. Thus, labor with digital skills, which is merely a technical attribute, may not suffice; creativity is also necessary for industrial businesses to achieve sustainable growth. According to research from Krungsri Bank, the trends in digital service and software businesses from 2023 to 2025 indicate that during this period, this sector has potential for continuous revenue growth across all sub-businesses, particularly in digital service businesses that will be the main driver for profit growth. The revenue from digital service and software businesses is expected to grow continuously at an average rate of 19.0-20.0%, divided into 1) digital services, with revenue expected to grow at an average rate of 22.0-23.0% 2) software and software services, with revenue expected to expand by 11.0-12.0%, and 3) digital content, with revenue expected to grow by 13.0-14.0%. Low Carbon Society: "Low Carbon Society" is a term that has been increasingly heard as long as we cannot control global temperatures from rising above 1.5 degrees Celsius. To transition to a low carbon society, all sectors must swiftly adapt, awaken, and change behaviors. In terms of the industrial business sector, it presents both opportunities and pressures to produce environmentally friendly goods and services, responding to the demands of the new environmentally conscious consumer, such as products utilizing biodegradable materials and recyclable packaging with contemporary designs, and carbon-labeled products displaying greenhouse gas emission or carbon footprint information. Moreover, the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (Conference of the Parties: COP 28) from November 30 to December 12, 2023, has one of its objectives to reduce the impact of climate change to keep global temperatures from rising more than 1.5 degrees Celsius. Coupled with the trend of environmentally-friendly technologies or green technology, it will be a significant variable in adapting and promoting investments in the industrial business sector. Investors will increasingly prioritize reducing net greenhouse gas emissions to zero (Net Zero) and addressing climate change. Aging Society: Each year, the number of elderly individuals aged 60 and over is increasing, impacting society, economic policies, and competitive capabilities. According to the National Statistical Office, it is projected that by 2031, Thailand will enter a “super-aged society” when the population aged 60 and over will account for as much as 28% of the total population. The elderly require health care and dietary considerations, as well as adjustments to their environment and living conditions. An interesting issue is how to prepare for the aging society (those aged 50-59) to equip themselves before becoming elderly in the future, allowing them to be a valuable resource for the country and not a burden on their children. Another interesting point, which poses both challenges and opportunities for adapting to address these issues and transform the aging society, includes medical foods for the elderly, which is a future business trend, hospitals or elderly care businesses, and the application of innovations for the elderly in the digital age, such as digital devices. It was found that 37.9% of the elderly do not know how to operate or understand English menu commands, and 43.0% of the elderly who have encountered difficulties in using digital devices (Source: Statistics Bulletin, National Statistical Office, October-December 2023).

——————— Focusing on creating value to develop the Thai economy from traditional concepts or production factors may not always meet the demands of the new economy. Creating economic value by infusing creativity will be another new approach to drive growth, akin to how developed countries have incorporated creative economies into crucial national policy plans. In Thailand, this term may not yet be as prominent as Soft Power at this time. Nevertheless, the creative economy will only be tangible when it receives a serious and clear push alongside elevating creative labor, which is fundamental in creating increased value.
