Have you noticed that in the past 2-3 years, we have seen an increased variety of brands in the market? Additionally, competition in the business sector has steadily risen, leading many brands to seek new strategies or techniques to strengthen their product branding. Even new entrepreneurs* who aspire to become wealthy through their own brand but do not have their own manufacturing facilities must seek advice from experts or capable manufacturers to create opportunities in this area. This is where we will discuss "contract manufacturing groups" or "contract manufacturing factories", and there is a term we often use comfortably: "OEM" (Original Equipment Manufacturer).
(* refers to brand owners who hire manufacturers)
:
Thailand, the Hub of OEM
If we go back 30 years, Thailand gained significant fame as a contract manufacturing destination due to its capabilities and product development, as well as quality service that earned the trust of large companies worldwide. This has made Thailand a global manufacturing hub up to the present day, whether for cosmetics, automotive parts and accessories, electrical and electronics, apparel, etc. Most of these are SMEs.
Currently, manufacturers in the OEM group are members of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and cover all types of products, such as dietary supplements, cosmetics, food and beverages, fashion and lifestyle, packaging, etc. These industries are all characterized by high market demand, allowing entrepreneurs or new business owners who wish to produce and sell under their own brand to do so more easily.

Is OEM Truly a Path to Wealth?
After reading this, you may wonder if engaging in OEM will lead to wealth?
In fact, it depends on the factors and the structure of the industry or business, as each industry or business has different costs. Furthermore, manufacturers need to understand the production costs of their products. In this era, the manufacturers who hire production are increasingly skilled at price negotiation, which compels OEM factories to set reasonable production prices to allow manufacturers to determine margins, packaging costs, marketing costs, transportation costs, etc., which are generally around 30-40%, depending on mutual agreements.
:
6 Essential Points to Know Before Hiring OEM
Given that hiring products from OEM factories requires large quantities, manufacturers planning to establish a business or product brand must thoroughly research information before deciding to choose an OEM factory. There are 6 key points to consider:
Select a manufacturer with expertise and experience suitable for the desired product.
Check the quality control systems and production standards that the OEM factory must have, such as HACCP, GMP, ISO, etc.
Study the production steps to prevent and address potential issues that may arise during production.
Ensure that contracts and agreements are clear and comprehensive, as they represent trade secrets in the manufacturing process and ingredient formulas, and must not be disclosed.
If there is a need to register an FDA number, carefully verify with the OEM factory that the number can be used for your products.
Test product production or sample products to check the quality before ordering large quantities.
:
OEM Must Adapt to the Global Environment
Being a contract manufacturer or an OEM factory remains vital to the Thai industrial and business sectors. Therefore, to keep pace with changes in the modern world, OEM factories must continuously adapt, such as by incorporating digital technology to enhance efficiency in production and service processes, and by forming partnerships with manufacturers in other sectors to share knowledge and resources, which can aid in production and sourcing raw materials. It is crucial to continuously monitor market or industry trends and directions.

However, the group of contract manufacturers or OEM factories must have a platform that seriously and continuously connects manufacturers with contract producers to meet the current and future market demands, both domestically and internationally. This acts to affirm the true potential of "OEM".
