The chatbot industry is experiencing a disruption, causing excitement among users like us, as giant companies developing AI chatbots fiercely compete to see whose offering is superior between “ChatGPT” from OpenAI and Microsoft's earlier release that gained rapid popularity in December 2022, against “Bard” by Google, which officially debuted for trial use in February 2023. However, due to the rushed release, there were numerous inaccuracies that led to considerable criticism, necessitating a revision and further development before ultimately being announced for official use once again in September 2023.

“Bard” is an AI chatbot from Google, and the latest version is referred to as PaLM2 (Pathways Language Model version 2), which has a large language model (LLM) underlying it that better understands human questions and commands. Currently, it supports over 100 languages worldwide, including Thai.

Bard is now available for registration in Thailand, and it is believed that many individuals have already started using it. For newcomers who have never used Bard, you can register and trial it using a Google account at https://bard.google.com/. Those without a Google account need to register one first.

While Bard and ChatGPT are both chatbots, they share similarities but also exhibit differences. Besides the unique themes and designs, there are other details to consider. A summarized comparison is provided in the table below.

One of Bard's standout features, which may worry ChatGPT, is its integration with existing Google services (Eco System) such as Gmail, Google Docs, Google Search, Google Maps, Google Workspace, Google Flights, YouTube, etc. Just this aspect alone indicates that Google is serious about its offering.

There are initial examples of useful and interesting use cases that demonstrate that using Bard is not as difficult as one might think, such as:

Verifying the accuracy of the information provided, indicated by the Google icon button below, known as Double-check response, which allows users to check whether the answer is correct or incorrect (this feature works better with English text than Thai). It will search for references from the internet and display the results in colors: green and orange, with links provided (as shown in the example image). The green bar indicates that a reference source is available and can be clicked, while the orange indicates that no reference was found, the source is uncertain, or has been altered.

If the answer does not satisfy us, we can click the dislike button, or if we wish to share it with others, it's easily done by sending the link.

Moreover, the answers provided are not limited to a single response. Bard offers various alternative responses to choose from (as shown in the example image).

In addition to text, it is also possible to order images and audio, or a combination of text and images, or even create tables; Bard can accomplish these as well (as shown in the example image).

No matter how intensely Bard and ChatGPT compete, both provide benefits and create positive experiences while reaching all users. However, given that Bard connects to Google's database, concerns regarding data privacy arise. Although assurances have been provided, it remains uncertain how effectively these will be upheld. Therefore, as users, we must exercise caution by avoiding inputting organizational or personal information.
