การจัดงานเฉลิมฉลองครบรอบวันชาติที่ประเทศไทยนี้ เป็นการเน้นย้ำถึงความสัมพันธ์อันใกล้ชิดระหว่างสองประเทศ ซึ่งมีความสัมพันธ์ทางประวัติศาสตร์กันมาอย่างยาวนาน รวมถึงความสัมพันธ์ทางเศรษฐกิจที่เติบโตต่อเนื่อง โดยประเทศไทยและมาเลเซีย เป็นคู่ค้ารายใหญ่เป็นอันดับสองในกลุ่มประเทศอาเซียน
