Energy Monitoring
The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), through the Industrial Digital Transformation Institute (IDTI), plays a crucial role in linking the industrial sector with technology agencies, research units, and system integrators (SI) to support Thai operators in accessing and practically applying digital technology, especially in upgrading factories towards Smart Factory and Industry 4.0 through readiness assessments, identifying pain points, selecting appropriate technologies, as well as monitoring and evaluating outcomes. This aims to enable the transition to Intelligent Industry to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and increase the competitiveness of the Thai industrial sector effectively.
On September 10, 2026, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), through the Industrial Digital Transformation Institute (IDTI), in collaboration with the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), organized the Kick-Off event for the Intelligent Industry Quick Win Project to support industrial operators, technology providers, and system integrators (SI) along with network partners attend the event to hear concrete strategies for upgrading establishments to Intelligent Industry and Industry 4.0 held at Thai Beverage, 10th Floor, Federation of Thai Industries.
The event was honored by Ms. Pimjai Leeissaranukul, Chairperson of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) along with Dr. Virach Chatrarong, Chairperson of the Industrial Digital Transformation Institute, FTI, and Dr. Chai Watthiwattanachai, Director of the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), to drive cooperation between the industrial and technology sectors to enable Thai operators to access knowledge, research, digital technology, and supportive mechanisms that can be applied to solve problems and improve operational efficiency in factories effectively.
The centerpiece of this initiative is the launch of the “Intelligent Industry Quick Win Project: Upgrading the Industrial Sector to Industry 4.0 with IDA Platform” for the year 2026, which is operated by the Industrial Digital Transformation Institute of the Federation of Thai Industries, under a framework of collaboration with NECTEC and the Sustainable Manufacturing Innovation Center (SMC) to support operators in systematically transitioning from traditional factory formats to Smart Factories.
This project arises amidst the context where the Thai industrial sector is transitioning into the era of Data-driven Manufacturing, where competition is no longer solely dependent on having machines or automation systems, but also on the ability to integrate real-time shop floor data into management systems and data analytics to enable factories to utilize data for decision making, production planning, machine performance tracking, and continuous energy management.
Therefore, the transition to Industry 4.0 does not solely refer to additional investments in hardware or software but is a process of transformation that connects data, technology, personnel, and measurable business outcomes.
Under this collaboration, IDTI acts as the primary mechanism to coordinate and connect FTI member factories with system integrator groups, as well as to promote the project, sift through qualifications, arrange work plan presentations, and monitor progress, while NECTEC/SMC provides technical knowledge, IDA platform, related devices and systems, and also participates in selecting and accepting the project's performance results to ensure that the technology implementation in factories is technically prepared and meets practical requirements, with a significant goal being not just installing technologybut being able to utilize data to effectively enhance productivity.
The project aims to support operators in achieving digital transformation and transitioning to Smart Factory and Industry 4.0 through the use of the IDA Platform – Industrial IoT and Data Analytics Platform to connect data from machines and IoT systems into the data analytics process, focusing on two critical challenges of the manufacturing sector: overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) or Smart OEE and energy management or Energy Monitoring.
Factories are not only focused on visibility through dashboards but must also be able to utilize data insights to analyze causes of waste, identify improvement points, and establish pathways to optimize operations, such as reducing machine downtime, cutting unnecessary energy usage, increasing OEE, or enhancing production processes, which are key concepts of Intelligent Industry that use data as a decision-making basis.
The project aims to select at least 20 pilot factories to install and use the system in real applications, requiring factories to use the selected package continuously for no less than 60 days, or about two months, while collecting data and reporting results to evaluate how the technology utilized can create impacts for the factories.
Additionally, there is a focus on developing a network of system integrators who meet the criteria of SMC and SI Index to be ready for the installation and connection of the IDA Platform as well as preparing use cases and one-page summaries of model factories to expand the results to other operators in the future.
