“กากอุตสาหกรรม” คือ “สิ่งปฏิกูลหรือวัสดุที่ไม่ใช้แล้ว” หรือหมายถึง ของเสียหรือสิ่งที่ไม่ใช้แล้วที่เกิดจากการประกอบกิจการโรงงาน ตั้งแต่กระบวนการรับวัตถุดิบ การผลิต การตรวจสอบคุณภาพ การบำบัดมลพิษ การซ่อมบำรุงเครื่องจักรหรืออุปกรณ์ ไปจนถึงการรื้อถอนหรือก่อนสร้างอาคารภายในบริเวณโรงงาน กากตะกอน หรือสิ่งตกค้างจากสิ่งเหล่านั้น ทั้งที่อยู่ในสภาวะของแข็ง ของเหลว กึ่งแข็ง กึ่งเหลวหรือก๊าซ รวมถึงของเสียอันตรายที่เกิดจากอาคารสำนักงานและที่พักคนงานที่อยู่ภายในบริเวณโรงงาน"Industrial waste" refers to "waste or materials that are no longer in use" or means waste or materials generated from the operation of a factory, starting from the raw material receiving process, production, quality inspection, pollution control, maintenance of machinery or equipment, to the dismantling or construction of buildings within the factory premises. This includes sludge or residue from those processes, whether in solid, liquid, semi-solid, semi-liquid, or gas form, as well as hazardous waste generated from office buildings and worker accommodations located within the factory area.

ในช่วงทศวรรษที่ผ่านมา โลกประสบกับปัญหาและความเปลี่ยนแปลงมากมาย ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการปรับเปลี่ยนมาใช้เทคโนโลยีดิจิทัลแทนการใช้แรงงานคน ปัญหาความไม่แน่นอนทางเศรษฐกิจ ปัญหาโรคระบาดที่สร้างความชะงักงันให้กับเศรษฐกิจโลกและการดำรงชีวิตของประชาชน ต่อมาอีกปัญหาหนึ่งที่กำลังคืบคลานเข้ามา และต้องได้รับการแก้ไขโดยเร่งด่วนคือ ปัญหาการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพภูมิอากาศ ซึ่งเป็นปัญหาระดับโลก ที่ต้องประสานความร่วมมือกันแก้ไขปัญหากันอย่างจริงจัง อย่างไรก็ตาม การแก้ไขปัญหาดังกล่าว ไม่ใช่โดยประเทศใดประเทศหนึ่ง หรือหน่วยงานใดหน่วยงานหนึ่งในประเทศนั้น หากแต่ต้องประสานความร่วมมือกันเพื่อปะติดปะต่อให้เกิดผลของการแก้ปัญหาในภาพรวมของโลกIn the past decade, the world has faced numerous problems and changes, including the shift to digital technology instead of human labor, economic uncertainty, and pandemics that have caused stagnation in the global economy and people's livelihoods. ของที่ถูกใช้งานแล้วหรือเหลือใช้ เมื่อนำไปทิ้งก็จะกลายเป็นขยะที่ไร้ค่า แต่หากถูกนำมาชุบชีวิตใหม่ด้วยการรีไซเคิล (Recycle) หรืออัปไซเคิล (Upcycle) ก็จะกลายเป็นของที่สร้างประโยชน์และมีคุณค่าเพิ่มขึ้นได้ บวกกับใส่ไอเดียความคิดสร้างสรรค์และนวัตกรรมเข้าไปให้เป็นเรื่องราวที่น่าสนใจ ก็จะสามารถสร้างเป็นธุรกิจได้อีก สอดรับกับเศรษฐกิจหมุนเวียน (Circular Economy) ภายใต้แนวคิด BCG ด้วยItems that have been used or are no longer needed become worthless waste when discarded. However, when revitalized through recycling or upcycling, they can transform into beneficial items with increased value.
