Today (March 22, 2024), the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon signed a cooperative agreement for the "Prototype Project for Learning and Incubating New Agricultural Approaches (Smart Agriculture Industry (SAI) in Bangkok)." The event was honored by Mr. Kriangkrai Theeranukul, President of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), and Dr. Natthaworapol Ratchasirivachraboon, President of Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon, who conveyed their congratulations at the Federation of Thai Industries.
Mr. Kriangkrai Theeranukul, President of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), stated that the Federation recognizes the importance of agricultural development in Thailand. The agricultural sector has a total value of 1,536,071 million baht, accounting for 8% of the country's GDP, with over 12 million workers in the agricultural sector valued at 1.53 trillion baht (8.57% of GDP). Meanwhile, the industrial sector employs 6.15 million people with a value greater than 5.45 trillion baht (30.43% of GDP). Therefore, the agriculture sector still needs to improve production efficiency, management, and create added value that aligns with sustainable market demands. Thailand has strengths in its high biodiversity, which can leverage its rich natural resource base for economic benefits, particularly in enhancing the value of Thai agricultural products by applying technology and innovations throughout the production supply chain.
“FTI is implementing the 'Prototype Project for Learning and Incubating New Agricultural Approaches (Smart Agriculture Industry (SAI) in Bangkok)' to promote the production of high-quality agricultural products throughout the supply chain that align with market demands, known as On-demand Agriculture. This approach involves agriculture determined by the industrial demands in the area, utilizing technology and innovations in cultivation and processing to yield agricultural products with increased value, while connecting related industrial groups to collaboratively develop agricultural products that have economic added value,” Mr. Kriangkrai further added.
Dr. Natthaworapol Ratchasirivachraboon, President of Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon, stated that Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon, a higher education institution specializing in vocational and technology education, has a mission to provide education, promote advanced academic and professional skills focused on practical teaching, research, and offer academic services in science and technology to society. The university is prepared to support and collaborate with the Federation of Thai Industries in developing the project, including providing spaces for the project, personnel to support academic and innovation efforts, and jointly utilizing areas for academic and social services to ensure the project meets its objectives.
The implementation of this project is expected to lead to expanded application and use of learning centers among farmers in the regions, particularly among FTI members in 5 regions, 18 provincial groups, and 76 provincial industrial councils, while creating a mechanism that connects farmers, the industrial sector, government, research institutions, and all stakeholders in the relevant production supply chains in the area, leading to restructuring agricultural production to have high value according to the BCG concept and creating an efficient agricultural business mode that adheres to standards and leads to sustainability.
