ดัชนีความเชื่อมั่นภาคอุตสาหกรรมเดือนพฤษภาคม 2566 อยู่ที่ระดับ 92.5 ปรับตัวลดลงต่อเนื่องเป็นเดือนที่ 2 จากการส่งออกของไทยที่ชะลอตัวลงต่อเนื่อง จากสภาวะเศรษฐกิจโลกที่มีความไม่แน่นอนส่งผลให้อุปสงค์จากประเทศคู่ค้าลดลง ขณะที่ อัตราแลกเปลี่ยนยังคงผันผวน นอกจากนี้ ผู้ประกอบการยังคงเผชิญกับปัญหาต้นทุนการผลิตที่ทรงตัวอยู่ในระดับสูงโดยเฉพาะราคาพลังงาน ด้านอัตราดอกเบี้ยเงินกู้ที่อยู่ในทิศทางขาขึ้นส่งผลให้ผู้ประกอบการมีต้นทุนการเงินเพิ่มขึ้น ปัญหาหนี้ครัวเรือนทำให้ผู้บริโภคระมัดระวังการใช้จ่าย รวมทั้งยังมีความกังวลเกี่ยวกับการเมืองหลังเลือกตั้งที่ยังไม่แน่นอน ยังไม่สามารถจัดตั้งรัฐบาลได้โดยเร็ว
