When considering the components of the Thai Industries Sentiment Index in November 2024, it is observed that all components have increased, including overall orders, overall sales, production volume, operational costs (inversely), and performance. Meanwhile, most of the 3-month forward expectation index components have increased except for the operational costs (inversely).
This month, positive factors include 1) producers accelerating product manufacturing in response to increasing domestic and international orders, 2) the export sector expanding by 14.6% (YoY) due to rising global market demand, 3) the depreciation of the Thai baht benefiting the export sector, 4) continuous growth in tourism from the increasing number of foreign tourists, 5) an increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) during the first 9 months of 2024 (January-September), and 6) the disbursement of the 2025 government budget, leading to an influx of funds into the economy.
However, there are also negative factors, including 1) the flooding situation in the southern region, 2) rising non-performing loans (NPL) in Q3 2024, amounting to 1.2 trillion baht, an increase of 14.1% (YoY), 3) domestic automobile sales in October 2024 standing at 37,691 units, declining by 36.08% (YoY), 4) approved SME loans in Q3 2024 amounting to 647 billion baht, a decrease of 4.6% (YoY), and 5) increased competition from imported goods in Thailand, pressuring sales for producers, especially SMEs.
